Replica Speedmaster Apollo 13 watches copy two Omega references: the 2015 Speedmaster Professional Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award 45th Anniversary (ref 311.32.42.30.04.003) and the 2020 50th Anniversary (ref 310.32.42.50.02.001). Both are 42 mm steel chronographs with a hand-wound movement. Most replicas run a Seagull ST19 chronograph and a printed caseback. No replica copies the moving Earth disc on the 2020 caseback.

The two watches that get copied

Apollo 13 launched on April 11, 1970. An oxygen tank exploded on April 13. The crew used an Omega Speedmaster to time a 14-second burn of the lunar module descent engine. NASA gave Omega the Silver Snoopy Award in 1970.

Omega marked the 45th anniversary in 2015 with a white dial, black counters, and a Snoopy figure on the small seconds at 9 o'clock. The run was 1,970 pieces. In 2020 Omega marked the 50th anniversary with a silver dial, a blue ceramic bezel with a white enamel tachymeter scale, and a sapphire caseback with a moving Earth disc. That run was 1,970 pieces as well.

Replica specs

  • Case: 316L stainless steel, 42 mm diameter, 20 mm lugs.
  • Thickness: 14 mm to 15 mm on most replicas. The genuine 2015 reference measures about 13.5 mm.
  • Movement: Seagull ST19 manual wind, 21,600 vph. 30-minute counter at 3, 12-hour counter at 6, running seconds at 9.

Where replicas differ from the genuine watch

  1. Caseback. The genuine 2020 uses a sapphire back with a rotating disc. Replicas use a printed or stamped back.
  2. Dial art. The 2015 genuine carries a silver Snoopy medallion on the 9 o'clock subdial. Replicas print it.
  3. Movement. The 2015 genuine uses calibre 1861. The 2020 genuine uses calibre 3861. The ST19 inside most replicas descends from the Venus 175 architecture.
  4. Bezel. The 2020 genuine uses blue ceramic with white enamel. Replicas use ceramic or aluminum with printed paint.
  5. Hands and lume. The genuine uses Super-LumiNova. Replica lume varies by batch and often fades in minutes.

QC checklist

  • Subdials at 3, 6, and 9 line up with the dial center.
  • Chronograph starts, stops, and resets to 12.
  • The 9 o'clock seconds hand runs with the chronograph off.
  • Bezel print is even. No double lines on the tachymeter numbers.
  • Caseback engraving has correct spelling and depth.
  • Lug width is 20 mm. End links sit flush with the case.
  • Pushers feel firm with no grit.
