The short answer
A fake Rolex 124060 is a replica of the no-date Submariner Rolex launched in 2020. The ones worth buying nail three things: a 41mm case with the right profile, a black ceramic bezel that clicks like the real one, and a movement built around the 3230 layout. Get those right and the watch reads as a Submariner from arm's length and from across a table. Get them wrong and you end up with a thick, shiny thing that looks off in every photo. Expect to pay $300 to $700 for a solid example, more if you want a clone 3230 inside.
What the genuine 124060 is
Fix the target in your head before you shop. The 124060 replaced the 114060, and the change was bigger than the spec sheet suggests.

The case grew on paper, but the lugs got narrower, so it wears closer to the old 40mm than the number implies. That detail matters here. Plenty of makers copied the "41mm" headline and ignored the lug shape, which is why early fakes looked slab-sided on the wrist.
Movement is where the money goes
Three tiers show up in the market. The cheapest run a generic Asian ETA clone, a 2824 or 2836. They keep time well enough, but the crown position, the winding feel, and the architecture are wrong in ways a collector spots right away. The middle tier uses a 3130 or 3135 clone, which is the older Submariner layout. The top tier uses a 3230 clone, and that is what you want if the goal is a convincing no-date Sub.
A 3230 clone runs at 28,800 vph, winds smoother, and puts the crown at the correct height. Power reserve on the good ones lands near 70 hours. On the cheap ones, figure 38 to 40.
Case and bezel checks
Measure thickness if you can. The genuine case is about 12.5mm. Anything past 13mm is a tell, and it changes how the watch sits under a cuff.
Run a thumb along the case flanks. They should taper toward the lugs, not stay flat. Crown guards should be rounded with a slight bevel, not boxy.
Turn the bezel. It should move with firm, even clicks, 120 of them, and stop with almost no back play. The insert should be ceramic with numerals that look filled, because on the real one they are platinum-coated. Painted numerals look flat under light and chip at the edge.
Dial, hands, and lume
The dial is glossy black, and the markers are applied with polished surrounds. On better replicas the surrounds sit flush. On cheaper ones they look glued on and cast a visible shadow.
Charge the lume with a phone light, then look in a dark room. Genuine Chromalight glows a clean blue. Many fakes glow green or fade in twenty minutes. Hand shape matters too: the Mercedes hour hand should have crisp edges on the circle, and the seconds hand should reach the minute track.
Bracelet and clasp
Lug width is 21mm. If a seller lists 20mm, the bracelet is wrong. Solid end links should sit tight against the case with no gap you can catch a fingernail in.
The Glidelock clasp is the hardest part to fake well. It should slide without tools and lock with a firm snap. Cheap versions rattle and the safety flap feels thin.
Price tiers
- Under $150: generic movement, painted bezel, wrong thickness. Fine as a beater, not as a 124060.
- $300 to $450: clone 3130, decent case, ceramic insert. The value pick.
- $500 to $750: 3230 clone, better crystal, sharper case finishing. This is where most buyers land.
Before you wear it in water
Assume nothing about water resistance. Even a well-built replica has not been pressure tested at the factory. Have a watchmaker test it, or keep it out of the pool. Gaskets and caseback torque vary batch to batch.
Bottom line
Judge a fake Rolex 124060 by case profile, bezel feel, and movement architecture, in that order. Photos hide thickness, and lighting hides lume. Ask for a side profile shot, a video of the bezel turning, and the movement model in writing. Sellers who can answer all three tend to stock the tier you want.
