Short answer
Patek Philippe publishes no reference 5390. The Pilot Travel Time line uses reference 5524 for men and 7234 for women. Listings that name a 5390 use a number Patek Philippe does not print. Treat that model name as seller text, not as a catalogue fact.
The real Pilot Travel Time
The Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524G arrived in 2015. Case: 42 mm, white gold, sapphire front and back, 30 m water resistance. Dial: applied Arabic numerals with luminous fill, a date window, and a second time zone hand.
Movement: caliber 324 S C FUS. Two time zones, day and night apertures, 45 hours of power reserve, 28,800 vibrations per hour. Case band pushers advance the local hour hand in one hour steps. The date follows local time.
Replica tiers
- Budget, $60 to $150. Quartz or a low grade automatic. The 24 hour scale is printed on the dial and does not move. Day and night windows are painted.
- Mid, $250 to $450. Miyota 9015 or Seagull ST25 base. Working second time zone hand and a turning day and night disc. Case width lands 0.5 mm to 1 mm off spec.
- Top, $500 to $900. A cloned or modified 324 style movement with two linked hour hands. Steel case, gold plating or gold wrap. The genuine case is 18k white gold.
Checks before payment
- Ask for a video of the pusher. The local hour hand must jump one hour per press and land on a marker.
- Track the day and night aperture across 24 hours. Painted discs pass a photo and fail a video.
- Measure the case. 42 mm across, about 50 mm lug to lug, about 11 mm thick.
- Check the date change. It should follow the local time hand, not the home hand.
- Test the crown. Winding feel and hand set position separate the tiers.
- Request a caseback photo. Engraving depth and font weight show the grade.
What no replica matches
Weight. White gold reads heavy next to 316L steel. Movement finish: perlage, Geneva stripes, and beveled bridges are done by hand on the genuine caliber, with a Gyromax balance and a Spiromax spring. Service: Patek Philippe services its own watches. A cloned movement goes to a local watchmaker or gets replaced. No service history exists for replica movements, and parts supply depends on the seller. Resale value drops at the counter.
